description:	One of ballet's most charming stories, Coppélia is the comic tale of villagers Swanhilda, her beau Franz, and their encounter with the mysterious toy shop owner, Dr. Coppelius. Swanhilda and Franz's love story is interrupted when Franz turns his gaze to the beautiful girl sitting on Dr. Coppelius' balcony, but she doesn't seem to recognize his advances...in fact, she doesn't seem to move or talk at all because she is really a doll! While a case of mistaken identity, zany dancing toys, and traditional folk dance ensue, a beautiful classical ballet emerges. Audiences will enjoy Frederic Franklin's lively choreography, all danced to the animated score by Leo Delibes, making this a perfect Valentine's present for the whole family!

description:	Swift Creek Academy of the Performing Arts will be hosting the 1st annual Jig By the James Open Feis on Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Midlothian Middle School in Midlothian, VA. Jig By the James Open Feis, an Irish dance competition, will be the first event of its kind in Richmond. The feis is a North American Irish Dance Federation (NAIDF)-sanctioned event. All NAIDF feiseanna are open to Irish dancers of any (or no) affiliation. The competition will start at 9:00 am and continue throughout the day. Dancers from across the mid-Atlantic region will compete in solo competitions in levels from beginner through Senior Champion and from ages 6 to adult. In addition, dancers will compete in traditional group dances, called ceilis. For rules of competition and more information about NAIDF events, visit www.naidf.com. description:	Chinese born, now Tulsa-based choreographer, Ma Cong returns to Richmond Ballet following the success of Ershter Vals, his 2010-11 contribution to Studio One, to create a fresh new piece for the company and audiences. Cong's choreography is partnered with authentic human emotion and experience that he weaves closely into the dancing. Joining the world premiere is the beautiful La Belle Danse by Jessica Lang. Danced to Renaissance and Baroque music by Handel, Desprez, Mozart and Corelli, La Belle Danse features movement that joyfully plays with the ornate dance style of those eras. The pairing of these two works in the Richmond Ballet Studio Theatre is sure to be an evening of dance equally as moving as it is beautiful.

description:	These camps provide a performing opportunity for participants. These camps are 6 full days and 1 half day. Classes are held in the beautiful, spacious studios of the Richmond Ballet. Morning classes include pilates, ballet technique, men’s technique, pointe, pirouettes, men’s and women’s variations. Afternoon classes include pas de deux, performance class, stretching, jazz, modern, body alignment, and character. On the first day, you will take a placement class to confirm your level of proficiency. The program culminates with a performance of works learned in class. A list of instructors will be provided in your Welcome Packet.
